Mark 7:20-23
“And he said, ‘What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.’”
A secular life flows from a secular heart!
When you look at people you know whose lives are so ungodly that it is difficult to carry on a conversation with them without wincing, remember that they are simply living out their fallen nature. The moral expectations of society can restrain a person’s fallen nature to some degree, but the more that society itself accepts the godless values of fallen hearts, the more common it becomes for people to freely express their own selfish, secular inclinations.
These people’s lives left to themselves, will never be made whole. But testimony after testimony of people who have been born again by a living relationship with Jesus shows us that Jesus brings redemption to a person, saving their lives and restoring his image in them.
As you think about your relationship with these people and how God may want to use you in their lives, you must approach these relationships with the absolute confidence that God can transform the specific people in your life. Hold that confidence, and that faith, as you pray by name for these people, as you interact with them.
MAKE IT PERSONAL:
How are you making people a primary concern? What do you need to do to care for people better?
