John 13:34-35
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Your love for people is your strongest testimony as a Christian!
By far the biggest thing that causes totally secular people to consider Christ is their relationship with real Christians; and in those relationships the biggest thing that gets their attention is not that you have answers to all of the life’s big questions, nor that you are super involved at church—no, the thing that attracts them to Jesus is how a real Christian loves.
They are used to people pretending to love in order to get their own way. They are used to manipulating and being manipulated. But unconditional love? That’s something that makes them sit up and take notice of Jesus.
Think about your life. Consider the past 24 hours. How have you showed the love of Jesus to the people in your life? Is there some specific encounter where you see that you have not represented Jesus’ love? Does it sometimes seem impossible to love somebody who really irritates you?
Remember that when you are unable to love someone, Jesus is able and he is in you. Invite him to love people through you and see what a difference it makes.
