Exodus 3:10-12
“Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” He said, “But I will be with you.
Resolution #5: Accept my own inadequacy and trust Jesus to reach people through me!
The Bible doesn’t present us with superhuman heroes, but with real people. When God called Moses, Moses didn’t respond with confident assertiveness—he responded like we do. “Who am I? I can’t do that!”
Pay attention to how God felt about Moses’ sense of inadequacy. God didn’t mind Moses’ reaction, as long as it didn’t lead to Moses rejecting his mission. God knew that Moses was right—he was inadequate for the task!
God accepted Moses’ inadequacy, but then added this: “But I will be with you!” When God is involved, your adequacy is no longer the deciding factor. God is the deciding factor because he is totally adequate to make anything he calls you to successful. Nowhere is this principle more evident than in his call on your life to be a witness for him among your relationships.
In 2 Corinthians 5:20, the Apostle Paul declares that “we are ambassadors for Christ”. That sounds daunting, doesn’t it? but Paul’s sentence continues: “…God making his appeal through us.” You see, God is the one who will work through you to do what he calls you to do!
You might feel inadequate. In fact, you really should feel inadequate—you don’t have what it takes to be an effective witness for Jesus. But when you see that the one working alongside you to draw people to faith in Christ is God—well, that changes things, doesn’t it?
