5TH AUGUST
1 Corinthians 1:18
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
The simple message of Jesus dying on the cross for us is powerful!
Millions of people who do not know Christ sit in churches every Sunday, unmoved by sermons full of intellectually stimulating theological truths. Yet we have seen these same people respond in tears to the simplest message of the gospel shared by a friend.
Isn’t this what Paul said in Romans 1:16? “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” The power of the gospel is not in your skilful sharing of it. The gospel is “the power of God for salvation”.
Never be ashamed of this message. It is what has saved you. It’s the message that is at the heart of what it means to be a Christian. When someone you know shows openness to talk about spiritual things, simply ask them, “Has anyone ever explained to you how you can start a good relationship with God?”
If they say that no one has explained that to them before, ask if you can do that with them. If they say no, even your asking will get them thinking. If they say yes, then you are sharing at their invitation and you can relax in the knowledge that God will work through this simple message as you share it.
MAKE IT PERSONAL:
Ask God to give you opportunities to ask people in your life: “Has anyone ever explained to you how you can start a good relationship with God?”
