Galatians 2:15-16
“We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
By the works of the law, no one will be justified!
People have a hard time accepting this truth. It goes against our human nature to think that we don’t have to do anything to be acceptable to God. We struggle to comprehend that everything has already been done for us to be made right with God.
But it’s hard for us to accept that “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. There’s something deep within us that makes us want to contribute something because we know we have offended and disappointed God so much in life. We want to try to make it right with God.
The truth is that there’s nothing we can do to be made right in God’s sight. It’s only through the price Jesus paid on the cross for our sin that it’s possible for us to have peace with God and a real relationship with him.
God wants you to know with all certainty today that you are “justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law because by works of the law no one will be justified.”
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Have you fallen into a works mentality to please God? Don’t let your works become a burden to try and please God. Rather, let your works be an act of worship in response to his love for you. Take some time to think about all the “works” you do to please God. What works do you need to let go of? How can you approach these works as an act of worship instead?
