John 15:15
“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
What a difference there is between Christianity and other religions!
In most religions, God is considered to be remote and domineering. But the exciting thing for us as Christians is that God did not want to be remote from us! God entered our fallen world and established deep relationships of friendship with those who left their old lives behind and followed him.
Because of Jesus’ life on earth, he knows what life is like for us and that makes it easy for us to relate to him – to get close to him relationally. Today, God wants that kind of relationship with you! God doesn’t want you to feel like his servant; he wants you to feel like his friend. He wants you to know and love him. He wants to speak with you and hear you speaking with him.
Because of who he is, God should call us servants, yet he calls us his friends. Because he is Lord, we owe him our unqualified obedience; yet he asks us to obey him, not because we have to, but because we love him and he loves us.
