30TH OCTOBER
2 Corinthians 4:6-9
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.”
Treasures in jars of clay
When you are struggling, don’t hold back from being a witness—God loves to work through us when we are feeling our weakness. It makes his power even more evident!
Paul talks about this ministry of being a witness as a treasure. How amazing it is that God shines in our hearts to give people the light of the knowledge of what amazing things God has done for us in Christ.
But this treasure (our witness) is in jars of clay—that’s us. We are the jars of clay that are not amazing and beautiful, but ordinary and weak. It’s this witness about Jesus that shines out of us that is amazing, and that is all due to the power of God.
God wants you to know that when you feel the clay—when you feel afflicted, perplexed, persecuted, struck down—that’s when the life of Jesus may also be manifested in your body. It’s when Jesus meets you in your weakness that your witness shines the brightest.
