29TH JANUARY
Acts 8:29-31
“And the Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go over and join this chariot.’ So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.”
We are given divine moments to change people’s lives!
Philip was experiencing a great move of the Spirit when the angel of the Lord called him to leave and go into the desert. In immediate obedience, with little information but complete trust in God, Philip set out. God had a divine moment prepared for Philip. The Holy Spirit knew that there was an important Ethiopian man in a chariot, who was hungry for God and needed someone to tell him the good news of salvation.
While he was travelling, the man was reading from the scriptures. Philip went to this man and asked: “Do you understand what you are reading?” The man replied, “How can I unless someone guides me?” So Philip was invited up into the chariot and Philip preaches the kingdom of God and teaches the Ethiopian man about the Jesus. This results in the conversion and baptism of the Ethiopian man, which symbolises the beginning of the African involvement in the new faith that spread throughout the world.
Next time you have the opportunity to talk to someone about Christ, recognise that it is a divine moment and it has the potential to change someone’s life forever.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Are you like Philip willing to be guided by the Holy Spirit? Even when he asks you to step outside of your comfort zone and talk to people about Jesus? Be honest with yourself when answering this question.
