27TH NOVEMBER
2 Corinthians 5:6-9
“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.”
When God becomes the most important thing in your life, then your deepest desire – your ambition, “whether at home or away” – will be “to please him”!
When I fell in love with my wife, I had an impossible schedule. I was working full time, doing theological studies full time, learning Greek and Hebrew, teaching a large group at church. Yet I still found lots of time to spend with her. That’s what happens when you fall in love. When I fell in love with Jesus Christ, I found myself wanting to spend lots of time with him too.
For the person whose greatest love is the person Jesus, it is not enough just to spend time with him; we also want to bring joy to him by our lives. We want to obey him. We want to do the things that would please him the most. We should be saddened by the things in our lives that don’t please him and get rid of them when he brings them to our attention.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
What are some ways that you could bring joy to Jesus today? Make some time now to pray and express your deepest desire to the Lord.
