27TH JUNE
Proverbs 4:23-27
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.”
If you want godliness to flow out of you, guard your inner life!
What flows out of your life comes from inside you. This inner life—the whole non-physical part of you—is called your “heart” in the Bible.
God’s clear message to us from this passage is that we must constantly work to take care of our inner lives. The pressures of deadlines and financial issues and temptation all work together to distract us from our inner lives and make us focus on our outer lives. But if you want your outer life to stay in balance and not overwhelm you, you must make your inner life your first priority.
Take time with God each day. Make a point of putting time aside for him. Develop your walk with him. Ask him to talk with you don’t just talk at him. Look at your priorities. Are the most important things in life coming first? Fix your gaze on them; don’t be distracted.
