23RD JANUARY
Romans 12:1
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
To present your body as a living sacrifice means to be available to God at all times!
This Bible verse gets mentioned a lot. It’s used as a reminder to live life for God in a manner that is holy and acceptable to him.
What does it actually mean to present our bodies as a living sacrifice? In Leviticus 6 we find some great insights on what is means to present our bodies as a living sacrifice. The first instruction the priests get from God regarding the burnt offering is this “The burnt offering shall be on the hearth on the altar all night until the morning, and the fire of the altar shall be kept burning on it.”
The first thing you should do to ensure that you present your body as a living sacrifice is to keep yourself on the altar, available to God at all times. Even if the world is trying to take you off the altar, to lure you with its fleeting promises, you must stay on the altar, giving yourself as a sacrifice to God, saying: “Lord, here I am. Use me. What do you want me to do for you today Lord? Who do you want me to help? Speak to me and I will obey you.”
God is reminding you today that he wants your availability. He wants you to know that in order for you to present your body as a living sacrifice, you have to make yourself available to walk with God, listen to his voice, obey his word and carry out his plans.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Ask yourself: Am I really willing to be on the altar? Day and night? Available to take the good news of the gospel to the people in my world? Write somewhere 3 things that hinder your availability.
