And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Make room for Jesus!
The story of Jesus’ birth in the stable captures our imagination, but I think it’s a story that often parallels our own lives. Have you made room for Jesus in the inn of your life? Or have you put him in the stable out back?
When we live our lives that way, we miss the very best part of life! God designed us for a beautiful relationship with him and beautiful relationships with others. But your relationship with God doesn’t work very well when you try to keep him out back. And when your relationship with God doesn’t work very well, your relationships with other people don’t work well either, because God designed your life to work properly only when he is at the centre of it.
This Christmas God is reminding you to open the door to your inn and give him more space and make more space for people. As you welcome him into the centre of your life, also make more space for the relationships that matter and for strangers who might need to find comfort and friendship in you.
Only then will you be able to experience your life as God meant it to be. Only then you will be able to fulfil his purpose for you, which is far grander and more significant than you imagined.
