16TH DECEMBER
Galatians 4:4-5
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
How different things would have been if Jesus wasn’t born!
Oftentimes the run up to Christmas can be hectic. There are church events that we need to attend, Christmas work parties we need to be at, presents we need to buy, decorations we need to put up, recipes we need to test before the big day. We can get so caught up in doing things for Christmas that we get to Christmas day too exhausted to even enjoy it!
Why do you celebrate Christmas? Christmas should be all about celebrating Jesus’ birth which changed history forever.
Frederick Buechner puts it this way “It is impossible to conceive how different things would have turned out if that birth had not happened. For millions of people who have lived since, the birth of Jesus made possible not just a new way of understanding life but a new way of living it. It is a truth that, for twenty centuries, there have been untold numbers of men and women who, in untold numbers of ways, have been so grasped by the child who was born, so caught up in the message he taught and the life he lived, that they have found themselves profoundly changed by their relationship with him.”
There is nothing wrong with trying to make this season special, but make sure that you don’t forget what it’s all about.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Make it your purpose to ask people who don’t know Jesus why they celebrate Christmas. They might ask you why you celebrate Christmas and this will open a door for you to share your faith. Make sure you know your reasons for celebrating Christmas!
