John 3:26-30
“And they came to John and said to him, ‘Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.’ John answered, ‘A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him. The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.’”
To make it your aim to exalt Jesus, rather than yourself, is the most joy-filled way you can live!
It seems backwards, doesn’t it, that living for someone other than yourself would be better than living for yourself? But John’s illustration helps us understand. Just like you can be so excited when your good friend finds an awesome person to marry—or like a grandparent can be overjoyed when their grandchild does well—in the same way you can find great joy when someone falls in love with your dear friend Jesus and doesn’t take as much notice of you.
Promote Jesus. You will be surprised by the joy it brings you when people notice him.
