14TH MARCH
John 4:36-38
“Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labour. Others have laboured, and you have entered into their labour.”
You are just one part of what God is doing to introduce the people around you to a new life in Jesus!
As Jesus thinks about the responsiveness of these Samaritans to him, he teaches the disciples and us an important lesson. He wants the disciples to see that these people’s responsiveness is not because of his awesome words to the woman, not because he and the disciples are amazing.
No, his conversation with the woman simply reaped the fruit of seeds that were sown by John the Baptist’s earlier ministry in this area. John’s penetrating message that cut through religion and called people to real repentance before God had been doing its work in people’s hearts and minds. Those people were ready to respond to Jesus.
Jesus wants you to learn that same lesson. As you consider those in your life that need to put their faith in Jesus, remember that God is the one reaching into their lives, changing their hearts. You fit into the process of what he is doing, but what he is doing goes far beyond you. The important thing is to be available to him. You don’t want to miss the role he has for you in the process!
MAKE IT PERSONAL:
Who in your life sowed spiritual seeds, before you turned to Christ?
And who are you sowing into?
