12TH NOVEMBER
1 Corinthians 10:23-33
“‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things are helpful. ‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour. Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof.” If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. …So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, that they may be saved.”
Always consider how what you do impacts on your witness for Christ!
Paul is writing about how he decided whether or not to do something frowned upon by some Christians when he knew he had freedom from God to do it or not. He tells us that the deciding point for him in each situation was how it would impact on his ability to share the gospel with those people.
It’s easy to simply make our own preferences the deciding point, but today God is reminding you that just as Jesus put our salvation before his own life, we need to learn to embrace his priorities as our own and put others’ salvation before our own preferences.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Take a moment now to pray in response to what God is saying to you.
