Ecclesiastes 3:9-11
“What gain has the worker from his toil? I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”
Resolution #10: I will speak out with the confidence that people’s hearts long for God!
“He has put eternity into man’s heart.” Every person has an innate sense that they were made for more, that things are not right in this fallen world, that there is something missing in their lives. That something missing is God. As Augustine put it, God has made us for himself and we feel a deep restlessness until we come to rest in him.
Every person’s heart longs for God! That doesn’t mean that they realise it’s God they are longing for. They just know that they need something that they don’t have. In their desperation to fill that void they latch onto the various things this world offers, thinking that those things must be what they are missing.
When you think of a person you know who is so into his work achievements and not at all interested in God, his heart is actually longing for God. His achievements will never fill that void.
No matter how self-confident a person is, no matter how much fun they are having, no matter what they are consumed with, you know this fact for certain: their heart longs for God. Their own heart is one of your greatest allies as you introduce Christ to them.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Studies found that in order to make new year’s resolutions stick we must share these resolutions with our close friends and family. Who will you share your new year’s resolutions with? Will you ask these people to hold you accountable?
